Chest & Back Exercises: Upper Body Workout : Trapezius Dips for Your Back Workout

Next, I’m going to show you an exercise that’s
really not used that much. It’s a variation on the Tricep Dip, but it’s called a Trap
Dip. What it is, you hop up in this roaming chair and extend your elbows. Your arms are
going to be nice, straight, and tight. You just want to go up and down using the muscles
in your upper back or your traps. So what you want to do is just go down and bring yourself
up using the muscles in your upper back, in your traps, and it’s just a basic up and down.
Make sure you are breathing normally; your head is neutral with your spine, keep your
neck straight and it’s just a simple up and down. Again, keep your elbows nice and straight,
nice and stabilized. Come down. Hold that for a half second and it’s just a basic down
and up. That’s it. Three sets up ten, it will burn your traps right out. There you go; up
and down. That’s a trap dip.

  4. Before making any negative comments, it's best to educate yourself. Remember, that there are not absolutes. There are more than one way to do things. Yes the upper, and lower traps run in different directions. Just as the deltoids can be isolated in Anterior, Medial, and Posterior components. Also, think about how performing eccentric exercises "the negatives" also stimulate muscle.

  5. @julian671 hold two heavy dumbells at your sides. then raise your shoulders up and try to touch your ears with them while keeping your arms straight throughout the motion. dumbell shrug. It's probably the best exercise for building mass on the traps.

  8. Thanks man! I had LB surgery 4 years ago and havent been able to do any trap exercise (everything I know puts strain on the lower back) since and as a result lost some upper body symetry.Β  I'l give this one a try.
